Kundal Lal Gujral used to work at an eatery called Moti Mahal in Peshawar. He saw tandoori chicken over there and was fascinated by the concept. After the partition in 1947, he came to Delhi in search of a living.  He started Moti Mahal in Daryaganj area along with partner Thakur Das Mago.
